How do you have a grayscale picture and highlight just one part of it and make that colour vibrant!?

So i have this picture and it was in colour but i put it in black and white using picasa. i want to pick out one part of this picture like her lips or her shoes and make them stand out - have them so they aren't in black and white - in the colour they were before it went black and white. Just make them bright and vibrant! ANyone know how? Do i need any special software maybe?How do you have a grayscale picture and highlight just one part of it and make that colour vibrant!?
Use Adobe Photoshop.





First of all (IMPORTANT!) save your picture again under a different name. This means that if you do something silly (I do it all the time) %26amp; save a mistake, you still have the original to start again. I learned this lesson the hard way, as have many others. Then you can start work.





Use the Magic Wand Tool and the Lasso Tool to outline the area you want to be in colour. This takes some care; you can magnify bits of your picture for more accuracy, adjust the tolerance of the wand etc. so it might take a few tries to learn the system.





When you are satisfied with the selection you've outlined, go to the toolbar (Select) and use Inverse so that now you have selected the surround (the bit you want in mono).





Now use Hue/Saturation to take the colour out (right down on Saturation: you can turn it into total mono or leave a hint of colour in, as you please). You can now use the Contrast control if you want to increase/decrease contrast in the b/w area.





If you want the colours in your bright zone to be even more vibrant, use Select-Inverse again to select the zone %26amp; go back to Hue/Saturation. You can change the hue, increase saturation etc. You can also use Contrast to make the zone more striking without altering the surround.





Finally, go back to Select %26amp; choose None. The line showing your selection vanishes, %26amp; you have the finished job, which you can save.How do you have a grayscale picture and highlight just one part of it and make that colour vibrant!?
The programs I would use would be either Adobe Photoshop 5.0 or up or Jasc Paint Shop Pro 6 and up. You should be able to download one of the 2 off or download.com or a program very similar.


Pretty much your gonna grayscale the photo first. Then take the ';wand'; symbol which should be in most programs and draw around the object you want a different color, then click on the color and use the paintbrush to color over the selected area.


Its fairly easy just gotta get the hang of it!

go to photoshop and edit it there...lots of possibilities are available in that software, especially in photography.
Never heard of Picasa. I used to use Photoshop(TM) or Illustrator (TM) and apply a mask to the area.
